Sexual assault, violence, rape. These words can almost always be found in The Daily Collegian.
Penn State is a prestigious university, one with a longstanding history and thousands of loyal alumni. Recently though, Penn State has been an embarrassment.
I myself feel misrepresented by the negative actions committed by certain students. Penn State is a place for fun, making friends and getting and education. Let us all remember that is also a community.
What kind of community has student athletes that are arrested for drunk driving and assaulting women? What kind of community places females in risk of assault or rape? These actions reflect poorly on our school and student body.
We all say "We are Penn State," but what exactly are we? Are we a community as loyal to our football team as fellow students, or are we simply 40,000 individuals on our own? I hope we at least recognize the problems our university is facing and do something to fix them. Otherwise, the next time you yell, "We are Penn State," it might be met with criticism instead of pride.
