Letter to the Editor
'Homosexual agenda' about equal protection

You would think that in this day and age, people would at least try to learn about things they do not understand. This doesn't seem to be the case however, at least in regards to James Bascom("Coming Out Day rally does not belong at PSU," Oct. 20). He appears to be yet another uneducated young person who rants about the "homosexual agenda" like it's an evil organization from a James Bond movie. As best I can tell, the "homosexual agenda" is merely homosexuals wanting the same rights and protection as heterosexuals in this country.

He compares homosexuality with bestiality, child abuse and terrorism, as if any of the four could even be logically compared. Animals cannot consent to sexual relations with a human being, children are obviously being harmed in child abuse, and terrorism speaks for itself.

I fail to see how homosexuality can be compared here, as it breaks no laws and is between consenting adults. Psychological research does not back up Bascom's opinion of homosexuality as abnormal.

In fact, studies have shown that most psychological problems of homosexuals come from society's backlash against them.

You opened your letter by questioning why someone would want to publicly celebrate his or her own faults, yet you instead publicly celebrated your own: your ignorance.
