Letter to the Editor
Rap lyrics, video games similar to Ghettolopoly

I read Philippe Rouchon's letter regarding Ghettopoly ("Ghettopoly promotes racial hatred, prejudice," Oct. 14) and had to ask myself a question: Why is this one item being singled out as the end-all, be-all example of negative stereotyping? Musician 50 Cent raps about being a pimp, as does Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg and countless others. Why aren't they blamed for reinforcing negative stereotypes of minorities? Could it be that because David Chang is Asian and not black, he doesn't have the "right" to perpetuate the same terms that rappers do?

After all, Chang's performed his market research by watching MTV, listening to rap lyrics, and playing video games.

If we're going to hold Chang responsible for society's ills, then let's start pointing a lot more fingers at the other who are just as guilty.
