Assault of 21-year-old investigated by police

The State College Police Department is investigating an assault and attempted robbery that occurred between 4:30 and 5 a.m. Sunday on the 100 or 200 block of West Fairmount Avenue.

Police said the victim, a 21-year-old man, was walking on West Fairmount Avenue when a white man approached and yelled at him to give the suspect his wallet and watch. Two more white male suspects then appeared, and one struck the victim's head, knocking him to the ground, at which point the suspects fled.

The victim was treated and released from Centre Community Hospital for a laceration on his head.

The first suspect to approach the victim was described as 5 feet 10 inches tall with a military-style haircut and a medium build. He was wearing a green, short-sleeved shirt and jeans.

Another suspect was described as shorter than the first with a medium build.

He was wearing a blue shirt with a number and the Abercrombie & Fitch logo on its front.

Witnesses to the incident or anyone else with information concerning the crime should contact police at 234-7150 or Centre County Crime Stoppers at (877) 992-7463.
