NEWS

The rumor can now come to an end. The Pennsylvania "brothel" law does not exist.

A local lawmaker has introduced legislation that would create a five-member Pennsylvania Telecommunications Commission to regulate and promote competition among Internet access providers.

Nearly halfway through the fall semester, Penn State administrators will continue running the university on tuition dollars while waiting for the state appropriation to come.

Midterms have begun, and many students who have taken exams in the past two weeks have experienced unusually long delays in receiving their scores.

The investigation is continuing for a Penn State student who was shot early Saturday morning on the 1800 block of North Oak Lane, Patton Township Police Department officials said yesterday.

The Beaver Canyon camera on Hiester Street is down, but not out.

The first phase of new construction on Pollock Road began early yesterday morning and is expected to run through late November.

There seems to be little concern among members of the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Senate about how news of an attempt to recall the USG legislative and executive branches might affect tonight's meeting.

Police are investigating a robbery in which a male suspect took $45 from a 19-year-old man at gunpoint.

Five days after announcing their decision to try to recall both the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) executive and legislative branches, members of the Student Empowerment Alliance (SEA), the group pushing for the referendum, say they are making progress.

The despair and anger was on all of their faces -- it was the look of another disappointing 90 minutes.

When Casey Williams tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee against Nebraska, it was assumed that Mike Lukac would be his replacement.

Temple did it. Then Boston College did it. Then Nebraska did it. In fact, every team on Penn State's schedule this year has gone for the Nittany Lions' jugular.

Statistics say things that get people into trouble almost as often as Geraldo Rivera.

Every victory for the Penn State women's volleyball team has elicited the same reaction.

A lot was at stake for the Penn State men's tennis team heading into the championship match of the ECAC tournament yesterday.

Natalie Jacobs' hip toss of Michigan's Elizabeth Dosa isn't the standard method of defense in women's collegiate soccer, but even a vertical suplex may have flown in yesterday's match at Jeffrey Field.

While Penn State quarterbacks have spent a good portion of the season escaping from a pass rush, Michael Robinson's reluctance to run Saturday was by design.

Senior women's volleyball player Erin Iceman has been named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week

Sophomore Tiffany Weimer has been red hot offensively all year for the Lions and this week was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after scoring all four Lion goals this past weekend.

SCIHEALTH

While much is said about alcohol and marijuana use at Penn State, the abuse of prescription painkillers like OxyContin and Vicodin is becoming more widespread and may be on the rise, said Penn State Police Services Supervisor Bill Moerschbacher.

If the word "stressed" is the catch phrase you use to describe your life, have no fear! Massage therapy is the perfect way to relax your mind, your body and your wallet.

How does shampoo clean my hair?

Scientists at a conference in Santa Fe, N.M., last month discussed building a tremendously tall elevator that can be used to transport people and cargo into space.

American Chopper and Monster Garage grease monkeys better watch out. Penn State has its own mechanics.

ARTS

Central Pennsylvania might as well be Central America to someone who has spent his entire life in Queens, New York. For local hip-hop artist Justin Staley (senior-psychology), the complete absence of an urban culture amounted to what can be described as jolting experience.

State College got a shot of original music when Hold on Nothing played at Bar Bleu, 114 S. Garner St., last night. This band, currently made up of only one permanent member, played in promotion of its newly released album, Dog and Pony.
