Iceman's performance brings Big Ten award

Senior women's volleyball player Erin Iceman has been named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week after averaging 4.50 kills per game and attacking at a .469 clip to lead 11th-ranked Penn State past conference foes Purdue and Indiana over the weekend. Iceman shares the award with Minnesota's Erin Martin.

It is the first Big Ten Player of the Week accolade for Iceman and Penn State's second this season as senior Cara Smith was honored on Sept. 2. Iceman's selection marks Penn State's 30th overall conference Player of the Week award since joining the Big Ten in 1991.

For the weekend, Iceman averaged 4.50 kills per game with only four errors on 49 attempts to hit .469 through two matches.

Against Purdue, she pounded 12 kills on 24 swings with only one error. The following night against Indiana, Iceman recorded 15 kills, three short of her career-high 18, which she set at Michigan in a five-game match. She also posted a team-high four service aces on the weekend, including three against the Hoosiers. Iceman tallied an average of 1.67 digs per game and 1.00 blocks per game to aid the Nittany Lions in remaining the only unbeaten team in the Big Ten.
