After a weekend split the Penn Statefield hockey team is left scratching their heads.
The No. 8 Nittany Lions (10-3) defeated No. 20 Indiana (5-3), on Friday 2-1 but fell to No. 2 North Carolina (11-1), on Sunday afternoon 3-2. The Lions led 2-0 at halftime, but allowed the Tarheels to come back and win on a goal off a penalty corner by North Carolina junior Katy Potter with less than two minutes remaining in the game. They scored two goals in the last six minutes of the game.
"Sunday was a really a tough loss," Penn State field hockey coach Charlene Morett said. "We played a great game, our best game to date and I thought we did everything we had to do to win, but we gave up three second half goals."
Penn State and North Carolina have had a great history together playing many close games. Sunday was no different.
