The show raised almost $5,000 for the Kevin Dare Memorial Scholarship Fund, Shuey said.
At least 600 people showed up to last year's event held at Crowbar and Shuey has done her best to ensure its success for this year by assembling another solid night of local rock.
Crowbar will open its doors at 8 p.m. and Juiced will take the stage at 8:30, followed by 4saken, Poptart Monkeys, Backstreet Law and Emily's Toybox.
"Michelle knows the best bands to choose," said James Balogach, bassist for Poptart Monkeys.
The Poptart Monkeys are supported by Budweiser True Music Live, making them the only central Pennsylvania band supported at the corporate level.
"We could be categorized as modern power-pop punk," Balogach said. The band plays a mix of covers and original songs, but expects to play more originals at the benefit show because it will be surrounded by a lot of its fans.
"It's a good thing we're getting lumped in with these great bands," Balogach said. "There's a lot of looping. Backstreet Law fans are also our fans."
Backstreet Law has been together since 1996 and Juiced has been playing the area since 2000. The only new band on the scene is 4saken, a modern rock band from Bloomsburg, Pa.
"Emily's Toybox plays State College all the time," Shuey said. "And that's why they are going last."
The band is looking forward to playing an all-original set at the benefit show.
"We do covers in order to get into bigger clubs," said Mike Wise, lead singer for Emily's Toybox. He estimates that 80 percent of the band's shows include covers.
"That's why we try and do as many [benefit shows] as we can," Wise said.
Wise is excited to play with local bands.
"We never get to see these people in other bands," Wise said. "And we pretty much know everyone of them."
Considering it has been a success both for the benefit and local music community, Shuey said she plans on making it an annual event.
