Letter to the Editor
Lack of TV coverage not a problem for fans

This letter is in response to Lindsay Kassak's letter ("Fans hurt by decision to not televise game," Sept. 22) I commend Ms. Kassak's attitude toward supporting the Nittany Lions and I am sorry that she was unable to view the game last Saturday, seeing as it was not televised.

However, I believe her anger toward ESPN is misplaced. Indeed, ESPN is not the only television network that broadcasts collegiate football games. There were likely many factors that went into the networks' decisions to not bid on that particular game, probably because there were approximately 29 other college games going on that particular Saturday which proved more lucrative to the networks. Also, Ms. Kassak said, "If I wanted to pay to watch PSU football, I would have bought tickets." To me, this sums up her attitude quite nicely. Numerous fans paid out of their own pockets to go and watch Penn State play Kent State last Saturday and I was one of them. To us, the lack of media coverage of the game was not a problem at all; we were there in the flesh.
