NEWS

Penn State President Graham Spanier spoke about the challenges of Pennsylvania's demographics for higher education at the first University Faculty Senate meeting of the year.

Although there have been increased reports of cheating at colleges nationwide, the trend has not prompted Penn State officials to change the academic integrity policy.

Religion, community, unity and hope brought more than 200 people to the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center last night to hear Sue Paterno speak for grand opening celebrations.

David E. Jones, 25, of Emery, S.D., was arraigned before District Justice Bradley Lunsford at 1 p.m. yesterday for indecent exposure and open lewdness.

Hurricane Isabel may throw a wrench into tailgating during Saturday's Kent State football game, as predicted heavy rains Friday would cause ground saturation and possible flooding.

The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Senate moved one step closer to filling its nine empty seats by appointing a new secretary at last night's meeting.

Students traveling from the University Park Airport may soon face more security measures in the coming months as the federal government concludes one of three testing periods for a new safety system.

An oil spill at the north end of State College shut down roadways for most of yesterday, causing detours and backups on Route 322.

Along with death and taxes, one of the things current Penn State students can count on are tuition hikes -- and the misconceptions that surround them. Despite constant and considerable increases every year of the 1990s, including a 10 percent increase this year alone, most Penn State students are relatively unaware of the details of the university's yearly income and spending.

While the Penn State football depth chart released on Monday lists two new starters on the offensive line for Saturday's game against Kent State, Nittany Lions' coach Joe Paterno gave, at best, a weak endorsement of his two new linemen yesterday.

Embroiled in a situation in which no one is happy, Penn State football coach Joe Paterno said he still has no timetable for naming a number one tailback.

Mike Lukac doesn't like to see any one get hurt, but it's more difficult when that player is one of his good friends.

It hasn't been a lucky week for Paul Omekanda.

Although fall tournaments serve as a preseason for the Penn State Men's Tennis team, head coach Jan Bortner does not lower his expectations for his 2003 squad that finished 14-11 overall (2-8 Big Ten) after 2002-2003 play.

The Penn State women's golf team couldn't find any southern hospitality in Hanahan, S.C. during the Cougar Classic.

The accessibility to major bowl games desired by non-Bowl Championship Series schools and the revenue and prestige BCS schools could lose by granting that access are the hurdles that must be crossed in order to accomplish college football reform, Penn State President Graham Spanier said last week.

The women of the Penn State soccer team have to show up at Jeffrey Field tonight. And they have to go through the motions of a soccer game for about an hour and a half. They even have to knock a few balls into the back of the net. If the elite squad can accomplish all that, a win should be at hand.

The 1999 women's World Cup was a landmark in American soccer history. It vitalized the women's game like nothing else had to that point and was one of the key influences in the formation of the Women's United Soccer Association. Spon-sors saw that there was a market for professional wo-men's soccer and invested millions of dollars into it.

There aren't too many good things to talk about regarding Penn State's defense line these days.

Jeff Van Fossan is quick to deny he's trying to create a new Athens. Athens, Ga., that is.

Exploring the interrelationships between interiors, exteriors and the unknown, the Zoller Gallery presents the Better Homes and Gardens exhibit.

If there is anything Penn State has learned about the Red Hot Chili Peppers, it's that the members are always on top of their game and they always bring great opening acts.
