Letter to the Editor
Concept of submission misunderstood by many

As an American, I understand the suffering that we feel from Sept. 11, and the letters published in Monday's Collegian reflect this. However, Paul Smith's letter ("Culture understanding cannot explain attacks," Sept. 15) went so far as to accuse Muslim culture of being one that "glorifies ... the submission of the free mind."

This issue is theological. The author's opinion is that the submission to a Supreme Being is somehow undignified. We believe that a God who is truly most high, most knowing, most compassionate and just, a God who created us and exists with or without our worship is more than worthy of our submission. We submit to no man, ideology or desire; we submit only to the will of God.
