Many (not all) proponents of the Second Amendment seem to be taking their love for guns and violence too far.
I don't think our forefathers had assault rifles and automatic weapons in mind when this amendment was passed. I'm sure they had no idea the passion Americans would have for violence. The right to bear arms is about having the right to defend yourself, not the right create a climate where violence is the answer to life's problems. Do guns beget violence? It doesn't seem this way. Watching Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine, you'll notice that there are plenty of gun enthusiasts in Canada, but not nearly the amount of gun violence.
I believe the media, along with our government, are stirring up worries and tensions among the American public. Maybe Americans are not fit to be toting guns around so they can be "patriotic" citizens defending our land. It is not my position that the Second Amendment should be repealed, but gun control should not be seen as sacrilegious.
