2 surveillance cameras now working downtown

Two out of three surveillance cameras placed on the 200 and 300 blocks of Beaver Avenue began recording at 5 p.m. Friday. The third camera should be operational early this week, according to a press release from the State College Police Department.

Recording is continuous and can be monitored live by police supervisors as is necessary. Signs were posted on Sept. 6 in the Beaver Canyon area to notify residents of the use of cameras to record activity.

Completion of the project has been delayed several times since the State College Borough Council approved the use of cameras in May. Wacor Electronics of Huntingdon was in charge of the installation, but ran into various problems with scheduling and equipment along the way.

State College Police Chief Tom King is scheduled to release more information on the third camera today.
