Ian Thompson must have really done his homework when he said in his letter ("Republicans to blame for threats to security," Sept. 11) that "the notion that Republicans are the party of national security is a joke."
Yes, truly it is the liberals in congress who are looking out for our safety. Nevermind that it was leftists like Al Gore who attempted to have the CIA disbanded in the early 1990s, claiming that the Cold War was over and the CIA was obsolete.
Yes, let us forget that and praise Democrats everywhere for their dedication to our security.
Nevermind that the American Civil Liberties Union, a well-known liberal organization, spends a great amount of time and money defending foreigners who come to the United States illegally.
Yes, let us forget that and praise them for their devotion to our safety. Nevermind that the majority of America's military personnel align themselves with the Republican party. After all, it's not like we in the armed forces ever get to see first hand the damage to the security of a nation when Democrats cut defense spending.
Yes, let us forget this and instead focus on what liberals say rather than what they do.
And nevermind that it is the political left that wants to crush the Second Amendment, one of the great-est guarantees of freedom in this nation.
Yes, let us forget all these things, for liberals everywhere claim to be the best thing there is for the security of our country. Why shouldn't we believe them?
