More than $40,000 has been raised over the past six years to fund cancer research at Penn State through an annual road race honoring a Penn State graduate.
Now students and members of the State College community will have that chance again on Sunday in the Sixth Annual Melissa Heydenreich 5K Moxie-thon.
People can register at a cost of $17 between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the Intramural Building. The race, which covers a circuitous loop of campus, begins at 10 a.m.
An awards ceremony follows the race.
The race is in the memory of Melissa Heydenreich, a Penn State graduate and Lion Ambassador, who died of leukemia in 1997.
The race is primarily sponsored by the Penn State Alumni Association and is conducted by the Lion Ambassadors. Proceeds from the race go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which in turn funds cancer research at Penn State.
