Letter to the Editor
Facets of modern life could not be predicted

It is interesting to read the countless opinions regarding the repealing of the helmet law in Pennsylvania.

Brian Blase's letter ("Repeal of helmet law step in right direction," Sept. 8) was rather interesting.

It seems as if more people everyday refer to the "America's founders" argument.

To me, this isn't a valid explanation, since America's founders could not have envisioned a society such as the one we live in today.

Second, the government should have a say in matters such as these as they undoubtedly foot the medical bills once the cyclist is injured in a crash.

Many times you hear of accidents on the news or in a newspaper where the victim is in serious or critical condition with a head injury.

What you don't often hear is the outcome of their recovery, as the victim is often permanently disabled, paralyzed, or dead.

Who covers the burden of the medical bills? Everyone does.

When it comes to this motorcycle helmets, go speak to a doctor or anyone from the medical profession for that matter.

When a motorcycle rider is involved in a crash, and isn't wearing a helmet, they have no chance.

No one offers a solution to problems anymore.

My solution is simple.

If you don't want to wear a helmet, fine, you must sign a "do not resuscitate" and a waiver stating you will pay any and all of the financial burden of your medical care.
