Assaults remain unsolved

Police are still searching for a suspect in the case of an alleged sexual assault that occurred over the weekend and was reported Tuesday.

An unknown man attempted to remove the clothes of an 18-year-old female student downtown between 2 and 3 a.m. Saturday, the State College Police Department said.

Police said the man followed the student as she walked through Central Parklet, and she began running away. The alleged assailant chased her to the corner of Pugh Street and East Nittany Avenue, where he tried to pull off her shirt and pants.

The woman screamed and resisted, which drew some attention to the area. The assailant then threw her against a wall and fled the scene.

The victim was treated by University Health Services and released with no serious injuries.

Police are still looking for witnesses. The suspect was described as a 5-foot-10-inch white male.

An on-campus incident of sexual assault from earlier this week is also under investigation.

Penn State Police Services said yesterday that the victim and suspect of a Tuesday morning sexual assault knew each other.

Police are investigating the incident, which occurred in Geary and McElwain halls, said Clifford Lutz, Penn State police supervisor.

Police identified one suspect, but have not filed charges. The victim and suspect are students, he added.
