Field hockey's Legel earns Big Ten accolade
Penn State senior Timarie Legel was recognized as the Big Ten Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week following her six-point performance against Old Dominion in the team's season opener on Sunday.
Legel sparked the Nittany Lions' six-goal out-burst with two goals and two assists - marking the first time an opponent has totaled more than five goals against Old Dominion since the 1996 season.
Penn State's 6-2 win over the Lady Monarchs was its third straight in the all-time series between the teams and also marked the first time Old Dominion has been defeated on its home turf since the 1999 season.
Legel's two assists in the victory were a career-high and her six points were one shy of her personal best of seven against West Chester during the 2002 season.
A third-team All-America choice in 2002, this week's conference honor marks the first time in Legel's career that she has been recognized as Big Ten Player of the Week.
