Carl D. McWilliams, 53, was bound over for trial Wednesday on charges of allegedly sexually assaulting two 6-year-old girls in 1993.
Both victims and their mother were present and testified at the preliminary hearing last week.
McWilliams was charged in August 2000 with aggravated indecent assault, statutory rape and corruption of minors after relatives learned of the alleged incident from the two victims.
For both victims, McWilliams is being charged with one count of statutory rape, five counts of aggravated indecent assault, six counts of indecent assault and two counts of corruption of minors.
McWilliams was previously convicted of sex crimes against minors in both 1980 and 1987.
McWilliams was also charged for not complying with the terms of Megan's Law. Under the law, sex offenders are required to register for community notification of a "sexually violent predator" scheduled to be released into the community.
After being charged in 2000, McWilliams fled to Priest Pond, Canada, where a resident tipped off police after watching an episode of Unsolved Mysteries that featured the case.
The victims' mother knew of McWilliams' previous convictions when she allowed him to baby-sit her three children.
The victims and their mother were living in Lemont at that time, and McWilliams was a neighbor. The victims' mother, employed at that time, worked about four days a week and four to eight hour shifts, and during that time McWilliams would watch her children at their home.
The victims' mother said that her relationship with McWilliams was initially a physical relationship, however over time it had escalated as she grew to trust him.
"He interacted with my children beautifully," said the victims' mother.
The relationship between McWilliams and the victims seemed normal, the mother said.
The alleged incidents occurred separately in the victims' home, where McWilliams told them to follow him to an upstairs bedroom to watch television. He allegedly sexually assaulted each victim and on many occasions told them he would beat them if they told anyone about what happened.
