Transportation

Although State College may not be that large of a town, a variety of transportation systems in Centre County offer a great number of services for students to get from here to there.

The following are some of the region's options for anything from planes to automobiles.

Buses

The Centre Area Transportation Authority officially began service in 1975, even though other bus routes were in operation prior to that year.

TOWN AND CAMPUS LOOP HOURS
Monday to Friday
7 to 7:30 a.m.-- service every 10 minutes
7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.-- service every five to eight minutes
7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. -- service every 10 minutes (service continues until 2:30 a.m. Thursday and Friday)
Saturday
11 a.m. to noon-- service every 20 minutes
noon to 9 p.m.-- service every 10 minutes
9 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. -- service every seven minutes
Sunday
7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.-- service every 20 minutes
4 p.m. to 10 p.m. -- service every 10 minutes
10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. service every 20 minutes
LINK HOURS
Monday to Friday
7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. -- service at least every 15 minutes
8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. -- service every 24 minutes
Saturday and Sunday
11 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. -- service every 24 minutes

It serves the Penn State campus as well as Centre County.

CATA operates the Loop and Link, which begin running at 11 a.m. today.

The Loop

The Campus Loop is a free bus service that runs through campus and downtown on College Avenue.

The Town Loop is a free bus service that runs through campus and downtown on Beaver Avenue.

The Link

The Link travels from the Bryce Jordan Center down Curtain Road and crosses North Atherton Street, where it makes stops on West Campus before turning around on White Course Drive.

Air

The airport is located about five miles from campus and offers direct flights to Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington D.C. and Detroit.

With construction in recent years, including the extension of runways, the airport has been able to serve more customers with an increased number of departures.
