Where to shop. Styles 'fall' back for this season's fashion
If it was cool when parents and grandparents were college-aged, odds are those old clothes are coming back in a big way. Dusting off those old-school threads is recommended this season.

The retro look is back in fashion.

Anything from the 1950s to the 1980s is popular for fall 2003.

Fashion sneakers from the 1980s such as Pumas, Sauconys and Converse are reappearing in modern times.

The retro look from the 1950s and 1960s with aviator style jackets, tweed skirts and faux fur on jean jackets are back in, said Veronica Burk, manager of Mr. Charles, 228 E. College Ave.

"It is very exciting; retro is coming back. Everyone will be able to find something," Burk said.

Coats should be one of the top sellers for the fall, she said.

"Trendy coats, the
vintage look with em-
broidered prints and
faux [synthetic] fur are going to be the hottest for the fall," she said.

Clothes in stores follow similar trends that were seen in the past few years. They include such items as printed ruffles, asymmetrical shirts, skirts and clothing, are all still in style for the fall.

"You will see prints paired up with a tweed skirt with a lot of counteracting fiber," Burk said.

Clubbing clothes that students wear on the weekends will always be in style, said Sunny Han, employee at Metro, 320 E. College Ave.

Compared to certain styles last fall, this year will be different, she said.

"The preppy look with pleated skirts and a collared shirt are going to be very popular," Han said.

Burk agrees the preppy, school girl look is going to be another one of the popular clothing styles for the fall.

"The little good girl top and a sexy short skirt are going to be in for the fall," she said. "It'll be conservative on top and sexy on the bottom."

Christina Monzillo, owner of Access, 214 E. College Ave., said an "L.A. look" will also make an appearance this autumn.

"An L.A. gangster look is becoming popular for the fall with camouflage, zipped up hoodies with a sexy tank underneath it," Monzillo said.

Denim is still in style for the fall, she said.

"Denim is still extremely strong," Monzillo said. "But now, there are more than five pockets on the jeans, and there are more straight leg jeans than bootleg jeans."

Not only is the retro look back in with clothing, but also with shoes.

"Fashion sneakers like Pumas, Diesels, Sauconys and Goyas are going to be very popular," said Chrissy Kunes, assistant manager of Barefoot, 130 E. College Ave.

Luke Hoover, employee at Shoe Fly, 214 E. College Ave., agrees fashion sneakers are the most popular.

"The retro sneakers sell more than anything," Hoover said. "It is just the style now."

Like fashion sneakers, low and high top Converse shoes and knock-off wrestling shoes are going to be popular, Han said.

The chunky Steve Madden shoes that have been popular in the past have changed styles.

"The style of his shoes changed from his normal look," Kunes said. "You will see his shoes with high heels and pointy toes, compared to his chunky round toe look."

Like last year, pointy and round-toed shoes are back in for this fall, she said.
