- The Athletic Clubs offer free weights, nautilus equipment, cardiovascular machines, aerobic classes, racquetball courts, a sauna and a steam room. The South Club also has a hot tub and a swimming pool, and hold water aerobic classes. Prices range from $129 to $255 per semester. Two for one ($139) deals are held at the beginning of the fall semester.
- Body Works Health and Fitness Center
- 127 Sowers St.
- Hours: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Body Works Health and Fitness Center offers equipment for strength training and conditioning and cardiovascular workout. It holds approximately 45 aerobic classes per week, has tanning beds and a personal training programs. The center also features a pro shop, juice bar and free parking. Prices vary depending on preferred prgrams but are as low as $24 per month with no initial fees.
- State College Area Family YMCA
- 677 W. Whitehall Road
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- The YMCA has a 4,000 square-foot fitness center and three gyms for basketball, volleyball and rockclimbing. It also offers an inline skating rink, martial arts and fitness classes. Adults can join for $50 down and a $260 annual fee or $50 down and $25 a month.
- Z Bodies
- 1341 S. Atherton St.
- Hours: Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Sunday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- With only 100 members, Z bodies offers a more serious atmosphere for working out. The club has personal fitness training, pace and stationary equipment and free weights. An open membership can be purchased for $35 a month.
- Downtown Swim and Fitness Club
- 240 S. Pugh St.
- Hours: Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- For about $60 per semester, members can join the passport program at the Downtown Swim and Fitness. This program includes water aerobics, pool usage, free weights, nautilus equipment, multi-station gym, cardiovascular equipment and club amenities.
- East Coast Health and Fitness
- 250 W. Hamilton Ave.
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- East Coast offers about 70 classes a week. It has a full circuit of Cybex machines, 10,000 pounds of free weights, 30 pieces of cardiovascular equipment and personal trainers. The gym also offers massage therapy, fitness assessments and free parking. Cost includes $25 down and $31 a month or $129 a semester.
- One on One Fitness Consultants
- 275 Northland Center
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Sunday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Few students frequent One on One Fitness Consultants. The club offers personal training instruction. Prices vary, and packages are usually purchased by the number of sessions desired.
