Letter to the Editor
Locals respond to column on California governor 2

Conor Moran's column, ("What a student can learn from the state of California") was very entertaining and interesting to read. However, Mr. Moran's view is not accurate and by his own criteria Governor Davis must go.

The column stated, "He hasn't auctioned off the Golden Gate Bridge to a third-world nation. He's just pushing his way through some tough times in California." To the contrary, he has auctioned off the equivalent of the Golden Gate Bridge by selling billions of dollars of bonds which have had no beneficial effect in improving California's energy supply but have placed a huge economic burden on the state.

The column also stated, "They were probably looking to prevent the kind of politician that greased their hands with back room deals and twirled their gold pocket watch around all day." Davis has made back room deals by creating hundreds of highly paid commissions and appointments having salaries in excess of $150,000 a year.

These extra layers of noncontributing 'fat cats' have swollen the state budget and hindered efficiency, especially in education.

Mr. Moran did not get it correct. Although his view may be liberal it does not reflect the 75 percent of the voting public -- the vast majority being liberal -- who want Davis out.
