The Palmer Museum of Art, Curtain Road, is featuring three special exhibitions this summer among the 10 permanent galleries. Long before the days of American Idol, pop star wannabes climbed their way to fame by appearing on shows like American Bandstand and The Ed Sullivan Show. After an ill-fated attempt at tackling State College last February, alternative-metal rockers Trapt will try again at Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave., Monday night. The band's first planned appearance was cancelled due to travel concerns. But in the meantime, Trapt has received more acclaim. Often it seems all a record needs to be classified as "indie" is weirdness. Groups like Yo La Tengo can reinvent themselves on each album and produce music that always sounds totally different, and can still fall into the genre, as long as it sounds freaky. Let's face it. A good fiddler does not a singer-songwriter make. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is not just an innocent ride at Walt Disney World anymore. This flick is alive with enough debauchery to quench an adventurous thirst. The Deftones will prove that heavy rock music doesn't have to come with a heavy price Wednesday night. Tussey Mountain, 301 Bear Meadow Rd., will host its fifth year of the ultimate Wing Challenge Thursday nights between today and Aug. 21.
