NEWS

HAZLETON -- The Penn State Board of Trustees voted unanimously Friday to raise resident student tuition by 9.8 percent and non-resident tuition by 6.9 percent.

Police say this year's Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts was one of the calmest in years.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) and the State College Borough are involved in a zoning dispute concerning the fraternity moving back into its house located on 200 E. Beaver Ave.

The recent tragedy in Chicago involving the collapse of a three-story wooden balcony has raised alarm concerning the safety of the structures.

While there was little argument about the benefits of sprinklers, the cost of a proposal to require them in fraternities and sororities was the focus at a State College Borough Council public hearing Friday afternoon.

SPORTS

While summer-session freshmen get acquainted to college life and upperclassmen meander through extra classes, there is a buzz from young blood in the eastern part of campus.

For three young freshmen basketball players, life became very different two weeks ago. Their summer quickly turned into an rigorous schedule of strength training, classes, study hall and basketball workouts. But their 10-hour days mark the beginning of stability in their basketball lives at Penn State after an off season of rumors, uncertainty and coaching changes.

ARTS

Nemo's journey back home, Buzz Lightyear's life among the toys, Sulley's work in the monster world in Monsters Inc. and Peter Pan's flight to Neverland are adventures no longer just interesting to children. More and more, college students are getting in on the animated movie craze.

There may have only been two instantly recognizable hit singles between the headlining acts at Saturday night's AfterFest 2003, but for those who showed up, two hits were better than none.
