NEWS

Area businesses and organizations are in full swing preparing for a fun-filled Fourth of July weekend, with many events taking place in or around State College tomorrow.

Despite attention in the community concerning the recent violent rapes perpetrated by strangers, about 70 percent of sexual assault victims know their attacker, according to data compiled by Penn State's Sexual Assault Committee.

The requirements for simultaneous degrees and multiple majors have now been simplified, thanks to a change in University Faculty Senate policy.

Joao Acevedo, Mexican native and two-year State College resident, has noticed an increase in products geared toward the Latin American community in the Centre County region during the past few months.

Penn State students and local residents are going to have to wait a little longer for new movie theaters in the area.

After students left for summer break in May, signs were posted announcing that Parking Lot 80, located at East Halls, would become a construction site.

SPORTS

Although graduate and former captain of the 2002 Penn State men's lacrosse team admitted he has not picked up his stick since last lacrosse season, he did pick up another accolade -- 2003 Scholar All-American.

ARTS

Radiohead's Hail to the Thief is the most anticipated rock album of 2003. That is, if you prefer extravagantly experimental rock to minimalist blues-inflected rock. But try to forget about those red-and-white-clad rockers. They haven't existed long enough to raise expectations as high as Radiohead.

The Mars Volta's De-Loused in the Comatorium is what happens when punk rockers decide to switch on the radio and accidentally hit the classic rock station.

Anyone looking to get laughed at by a cinema employee should go see From Justin to Kelly this summer, the movie staring the popular competitors from American Idol, Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson.

Harry Potter mania has invaded State College.

Tussey Mountain will provide the setting for a perfect marriage this weekend between rock music and ribs.

While a typical Fourth of July celebration may include picnics, barbecues -- and, of course, fireworks -- State College residents can also add the Central PA 4th Fest to their day's schedule.

Making it big in the music industry can be next to impossible, especially when musicians aren't even given the chance to be heard. Skellerpalooza, held at 10 p.m. every Thursday at Rathskeller All American, 108 S. Pugh St., is a chance for new music groups to play, and bar-goers to experience variety.

In a perfect world, lovers wouldn't quarrel and everybody would get along with their in-laws. But if Pennsylvania Centre Stage's current musical I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change is trying to make one point, it is that the world is far from perfect, and neither are the people living in it.
