It's official. State College Borough Council accepted a bid last night for the purchase of surveillance cameras in Beaver Canyon.

The State College Borough Council will vote on the bids for downtown surveillance cameras during Monday night's meeting.

In celebration of Law Day, police officers and judges traveled to schools around Centre County yesterday to teach children about law enforcement.

Although an election request has not come as expected this semester, Graduate and Fixed-Term Employee Organization (GFTEO) members said there is no rush to form a graduate student union. Organizers previously said they expected to file for an election this semester, which ends today.

Get ready to be hugged.

Waiting for the Loop may soon become a thing of the past.

While the population of college students may dwindle after finals, Penn State welcomes thousands of children and teenagers from around the world into its summer camp programs.

Children with disabilities are among the many assisted by College of Engineering projects on display at today's Learning Factory Project Showcase.

The mission was to create a worship hall without a built-in cross, dome or ark that still had the power to inspire the spirit within people of different faiths. The product is the Frank and Sylvia Pasquerilla Spiritual Center.

Gasoline prices have been falling nationwide about 18 cents per gallon over the last five weeks, and State College has seen the effects from major companies and local competition.

There is a new solution for Pennsylvanians who want to pay more taxes: the Tax Me More bill.

Students and community members have the opportunity to "stamp out hunger" in the largest one-day food drive in the nation.

After nearly a year of debating, two student groups have merged, creating the largest LGBTA group on campus.

Penn State alumni Ed and Helen Hintz gave $2 million toward the construction of the campus's new Smeal College of Business Administration building, the university announced yesterday.

Pattee and Paterno Libraries and Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) buses will both be extending their hours for finals week. The libraries will be open until 2 a.m. Sunday, May 4 through Thursday, May 8 to accommodate late night studying. CATA will offer extended bus service for those studying late at the libraries. One bus on each of the Campus and Town Loops will run every 20 minutes after the usual end time of 12:30 a.m. The last Campus Loop trip will leave the Pattee Library stop on Curtain Road at 2:20 a.m. and the last Town Loop trip will leave at 2:24 a.m.

SPORTS

Growing rumors about a potential Big East breakup now appear to be valid concerns.

As classes come to a close, the Big Ten baseball race is just beginning.

The Penn State women's rugby team is getting used to this position.

It doesn't take long to sense the passion.

While everyone was enjoying the beaches and the warm weather over spring break, the Penn State men's rugby team was enjoying one of America's favorite game shows.

The chapter is over. A chapter in the book for five golfers that started four years ago is now coming to an end.

Finding himself eight strokes over par just three holes into the second round of the Rutherford Intercollegiate tournament last Saturday, Penn State golfer Greg Pieczynski began to lose his composure. The mild-mannered Pieczynski looked to open the tournament in style, but multiple strokes of bad luck had undermined his wishes.

At the beginning of the 2003 season, six Penn State women's gymnasts and one former gymnast, now a student coach, set out on a mission.

The sentiment after the 6-1 loss to Minnesota in the Big Ten tournament resembled that of the entire season. The Penn State women's tennis team just couldn't make it over the proverbial hump. With a final record of 8-14 (2-8 in the conference) a one-and-one showing in the season-end tournament and a minor statistical improvement over last year, the Nittany Lions, at best, feel satisfied.

The time has come. After succeeding in regional competition, the Penn State men's golf team will compete today through Sunday in the 2003 Big Ten Championships, which will be held at the par-71 Indiana University Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind.

With the upcoming Big Ten Championships in mind, the Penn State women's outdoor track team will get in some early practice against some conference rivals this weekend.

Every meet, every week is a building block toward the Big Ten Championships and the NCAA Regionals. This weekend, the Penn State men's track and field team will take another step toward these goals when it competes at the George Mason Patriot Invitational.

While the Penn State club baseball team is in the driver's seat, sitting atop the New Penn Conference, it is not quite sure where it is going.

With playoff hopes now as bright as a distant dying star, the Penn State women's lacrosse team will be playing with its pride on the line when it takes on Delaware this weekend.

The No. 12 Penn State men's lacrosse team (6-6, 3-2 ECAC) will play its final regular season game tomorrow against the Buckeyes of Ohio State (8-3, 4-1 GWLL). Tomorrow, the Nittany Lions will send off 10 seniors, including team captains Matt Zappia, Chris Garrity and Marshall Feldman, in a Senior Day ceremony.

Two wins is what it will take for the Penn State softball team to clinch a spot in the Big Ten tournament.

ARTS

Some aspiring comedians start their stand-up careers with visions of fame and glory, but for Penn State student Devin O'Connor, it's all about the cash.

Before you hear Kelly Clarkson's debut album Thankful, it's disappointing -- not bad, disappointing.

Ever since a group of shaggy haired boys (you have heard of the Strokes right?) stumbled onto "the" scene, critics have been looking for the next big thing from New York City. As many artists as there are in the Big Apple, it's kind of hard to follow up the hype and deserved praise of Spin's artist of the year.

"Identity is a secret. Identity is a mystery. Identity is a killer," so says the movie's tagline. Identity is a blower.

"Sometimes style will get you killed."

Props to The Flaming Lips for rejecting conventional notions of the standard "12-track album/A-Side Single with one B-Side/next 12-track album" formula when deciding to release new music. The group's latest EP is a mini-album with a focus on "Fight Test," the motivational folk rocker that kicks off last year's Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.

For a student majoring in English, it is difficult to admit when a book challenges my vocabulary, forcing me to have a dictionary on hand. Moy Sand and Gravel, however, is one such book, humiliating in its own intriguing, wordsmith way.

WEATHER

Cloudy, scattered showers and thunderstorms. High 62.
