While the Penn State club baseball team is in the driver's seat, sitting atop the New Penn Conference, it is not quite sure where it is going.
If New York University, which is two and a half games back of the Lions, sweeps its doubleheader against Rutgers tomorrow, the Lions will head to New York needing to win one game of a doubleheader Sunday to win the conference. If NYU (10-8, 7-3 New Penn) loses, Penn State (15-6, 11-2 New Penn) will be able to enjoy its Alumni Game tomorrow knowing that it is headed to regionals, where it will face the winner of the Empire State Conference.
"Basically, we only need to win one game," Lions coach Phil Pinkasavage said.
Waiting for NYU, while inconvenient, has not affected the Lions.
"It doesn't affect us too much," said freshman pitcher Jimmy Donovan, "because we beat them twice last Sunday."
After losing two of three to Rutgers on April 19 and 20, the Lions have won four in a row and taken over first place in the conference.
Regionals will take place the weekend after finals.
