Senators do not lose their free speech rights
In response to the letter "Views do not represent Pennsylvania residents" (April 30), what Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) was saying is that for the the Supreme Court to make a ruling in support of this case is like showing support for those other issues (incest, sodomy) as well. Santorum is merely stating that it would be wrong for the Supreme Court to rule in favor of such an "immoral" issue. His immoral feelings towards homosexuality come from his Catholic beliefs, and I personally support him. Santorum has just as much of a right to have his own opinions as the rest of us in this country; that's the beauty of the First Amendment. All this talk about him being our representative so he's not allowed to voice his own opinion is crap; it's unconstitutional for us to feel that way. He wasn't necessarily voicing the opinions of his constituents when he said that, but he did voice my opinion on the subject and there are many other people who feel the same way as I do.
