Federal tax cut better than wasteful spending
Re: "Bush's federal tax cut will increase other taxes," (April 30 letter). Those tax-and-spend Democrats/Liberals as usual want to steal my taxes in worthless programs that don't do a thing at all but waste my hard-earned money. I have a right to complain when I am sitting in the 30 percent tax bracket and looking at all the wasteful Washington programs (Peace Corps, welfare, Medicaid, Social Security, Medicare, etc.). This country was designed so that businesses can grow and prosper, not give the people "pork." The only way to stimulate businesses is to lower taxes to a respectable level (flat tax of 17 percent and a national sales tax of 15 percent). Deficits are created when Washington, D.C., spends like crazy. Democrats never had a surplus when they ran Washington, D.C., from 1954 to 1994. At least the Republicans have the right idea when it comes to taxes and give it back to the people. Remember tax-and-spend Democrats/Liberals its not your money, it's the American people's money. A tax cut of $900 billion to $1.5 trillion would be an excellent launching pad for growth, just like the great Reagan tax cut of 1981. It would force the government to live within its means; if it means mass firings and closing programs than so be it. That is how capitalism works; nobody owes you anything. Michael Mattingly
