Penn State alumni Ed and Helen Hintz gave $2 million toward the construction of the campus's new Smeal College of Business Administration building, the university announced yesterday.
The planned courtyard plaza outside the building -- at the current site of Parking Lot 80 -- will be named in their honor.
The groundbreaking on the $68 million project is scheduled for September.
To cover the overall cost, Penn State plans to contribute $39 million in general funds, while seeking an additional $29 million in private support.
A 1959 Penn State graduate, Ed Hintz is president of a private money management firm and chairman of the Penn State Board of Trustees. Helen Hintz is a member of the Class of 1960 and vice chair of the College of Health and Human Development Grand Destiny campaign.
