In all of the discussion about Sen. Rick Santorum's (R-Pa.) remarks about a Texas law before the Supreme Court, no one seems to realize just how little the senator's position represents the laws and views of his own constituents. More than 20 years ago the elected Supreme Court of Pennsylvania struck down the commonwealth's sodomy law as unconstitutional because it exceeded the valid bounds of police power and infringed the right to equal protection of the law.
In 1995 the law was officially repealed by the elected representatives of the citizens of Pennsylvania. Since its founding as a haven for dissenters, Pennsylvania has been a beacon of acceptance, tolerance and respect for the individual. Santorum's statements do not reflect the historical or current views of the citizens of this great commonwealth.
