Trees near Hammond give off terrible odor

When you hear the words "Penn State," you think prestige, intelligence and only the best and brightest. Well, what I want to know is who the idiot is who planted all the white trees, which are called Bradford pear trees, that smell like semen and Bisquick all over campus. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go to Hammond Building and smell the air.

I am fully aware that these white-flowered trees turn a beautiful mahogany red color in the fall then to a bright orange in the late autumn, but there has to be another tree with similar characteristics that does not smell as bad.

I remember freshman year living in East Halls when on calm days the odor of cow manure would float from the farms onto campus and then later in the day a calm gust of wind would casually breeze the smell away.

Since last week, I have had a pounding headache from the awful odor these trees exude into the air. I almost wish I still lived in East Halls so the calming smell of cow manure would overpower the smell of semen and Bisquick that have taken over the air.

I think it's really great that at this time of the year, a lot of future Penn Staters, who are being given a tour of campus can go home to their parents and say "Penn State smells like semen and Bisquick."
