Police seek witnesses
to assault

Collegian Staff Writer

The Ferguson Township Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding the Saturday morning indecent assault of a 21-year-old woman to contact them.

"There were some people in the area that may have seen these two people together," Det. John Conti said.

Conti asked anyone who might have witnessed any "problem or non-problem," and can help to better identify the suspect, to come forward with information.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 6 feet tall, and about 180 pounds with a thin build. Police said he had pale skin and was wearing a short-sleeve shirt. Police created a composite sketch of the suspect.

Police said the woman was attacked at about 2:52 a.m. while walking back to her apartment in the Park Crest Terrace Apartments, 1400 Martin St.

The suspect dragged her to the playground area of the complex and tried to remove her clothing, but the victim was able to fight off the suspect. She then fled to her apartment and called police, police said.

This is the second incident of sexual assault in the area within the last two weeks.

On April 13, a 19-year-old Penn State student was gang raped by three unknown men in a lawn on the 200 block of South Garner Street.

The rape occurred between 4 and 4:40 a.m., and the suspects are described as white men between the ages of 20 and 25 years old. One of the men was wearing a blue sweater and another was wearing a white T-shirt, police said.

After the rape, the men fled toward Beaver Avenue on Garner Street, police said.

Conti said preliminary findings indicate the two incidents are not related.

The State College Police Department asks anyone with information on the Garner Street incident to contact them at 234-7150.

Anyone with information on Saturday's incident is asked to call the Ferguson Township Police Department at 237-1172 or the Centre County Communications Center at (800) 479-0050.
