Who knew a Buckeye could golf? Well, Ohio State proved they could and obliterated the competition in the Big Ten Women's Golf Championship this past weekend. The Buckeyes beat out the nearest competitor by 29 strokes.
The No. 15 Buckeyes were the highest ranked team involved in the tournament with an 1194. Wisconsin came in second with 1223 and Northwestern, with a 1230, rounded out the top three. Meanwhile, the No. 42 Penn State Nittany Lions came in 11th out of 11 teams with 1241, however, that stat is misleading. Only eleven strokes separated Northwestern and Penn State.
Senior Katie Futcher led the Lions by shooting a 302 and tying for 9th overall. Senior Cindy Skilton shot a 316 and came in tied for 34th overall. Freshman Katrin Wolfe finished tied for 37th, one stroke behind Skilton with a 317. Seniors Keri Dugan and Meghan Mull shot near identical scores. Dugan came in tied in 42nd overall with a 319, while Mull shot one more than Dugan with a 320, and ended up tied for 44th. Freshman Amber Weinerth shot a 330 and finished in 58th. The team finished two strokes behind the University of Iowa and three behind Minnesota. Every team, with the exceptions of Ohio State and Wisconsin, was within three strokes or less, of the team ahead or behind it in the standings.
