NEWS

Penn State freshman wrestler A.J. Cummins will miss a competition this weekend because of injuries he received in an altercation that took place in the early morning hours of April 13.

Most students have seen the kids on a rope as they wander down campus sidewalks on sunny days.

Two years after the Village, the 10-day student sit-in advocating cultural tolerance at Penn State, the long and complex journey to a hate-free campus remains only partially completed.

Penn State Police Services said it plans to have additional patrols for tomorrow's Blue-White game and the daylong Movin' On concert, which promise to draw thousands of visitors to State College.

The war is ending, and troops and reporters are coming home. But some didn't think Saddam Hussein's regime would have fallen so quickly.

The scene outside the shop was calm, collected and almost relaxed. However, on the other side of the closed garage door, the atmosphere was anything but.

The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Senate rejected plans this week to lobby for a program that limits resident tuition increases to 4.5 percent and to lobby for state appropriations.

As the semester comes to an end and students continue to schedule courses, Friday classes are becoming less popular.

SPORTS

The Blue-White game is almost as big a chapter in Penn State football history as Joe Paterno.

A lot has changed since the swirling winds and swarming Auburn defense wreaked havoc on the Penn State passing game last January.

The guy at the top of the depth chart is the one to beat.

It's not usual for freshmen to get the opportunity to start, but rather the player who has paid his dues in the program.

Only a week ago everything was looking bleak, but the bleakness has disappeared.

The Penn State women's outdoor track team already has 22 NCAA regional qualifying times. Trouble is, it's hard to tell if that number is impressive or not, as this is the first year of existence for the regional meets.

There is nothing sweeter than the taste of redemption. And when the stakes are at their highest, that redemption means the most.

Last night proved to not be the ending that two Penn State gymnasts had in mind.

The No. 7 Penn State men's volleyball team must like the snooze button because it took the Nittany Lions awhile to wake up last night.

ARTS

Even with the war winding down, few people would transform a gun barrel into a garden hose.

While American Idol contestants continue to battle on the hit reality TV show, Penn State students will get their own chance to exhibit their vocal skills -- or lack thereof -- at 5 p.m. today on the Big Onion stage in the East Halls commons.

Everything I could possibly hope to know about Lisa Marie Presley's debut album, To Whom It May Concern, was abundantly clear before I even made the purchase.

There are a few moments of comic absurdity in Holes, but those moments are few and come mostly in the first 15 minutes. In his debut screenwriting effort, Louis Sachar desperately tries to cram all the plot from his 233-page book into this 110-minute film at such an assembly-line pace that he and director Andrew Davis keep us at an emotional distance throughout.

Writing catchy songs is easy. Just ask Avril. But writing good songs? That's a little trickier.

FX's Lucky, airing Tuesdays at 10 p.m., at first seems like a heart-wrenching television drama. Its characters are hopeless gambling addicts, living from day-to-day in Las Vegas. Some of them have tried to seek help and curb their addictions only to allow extenuating circumstances to drag them right back into the casinos.

Love can make people do funny things. For The Juliana Theory, Love has the band acting quite differently.

When the Messenger is Hot by Elizabeth Crane evokes memories of the former primetime television series Ally McBeal. Like Ally, the women in this collection of short stories are successful, lovelorn and zany.

WEATHER

Cloudy, scattered afternoon showers. High 60.
