Unwelcoming protesters is un-American attitude
This is a response to "You can stop protesting now that the war is over" (April 22 letter), and similar articles about how protesters are annoying and are wasting their time. I believe your response to this peaceful resistance completely un-American and unconstitutional. I am personally not opposed to the war, but I have no problem with what the protesters are doing outside the Allen Street gates, which is expressing their right to voice their opinion about the war in Iraq. It is true that the majority of America has been in support of the efforts against Saddam, and that protesting won't change Bush's mind, but the people out there certainly aren't wasting their time. The protesters aren't standing outside because they believe they can stop the war in Iraq or the actions of the military there now. They are there because they want you to know that the entire country is not in support of President Bush, whether the war is over or not. All over the country, people such as artists and actors who have spoken out against the war have been accused of being traitors and heretics. This makes me question the attitude that some members of our nation are adopting. It is our American duty to express our feelings toward the actions of our government. For example, many people in this country believe that no matter what the situation is, it is wrong to kill others. I don't. If it means that the people of our country will be protected from a madman, than so be it. But I'm not going to tell protesters that they are wrong for expressing their beliefs. That is their right as Americans, right or wrong. By telling these people that they shouldn't be allowed to protest anymore, you are adopting the ideals of the wacko that we just overthrew.
