Football Coach Joe Paterno discussed the altercation involving members of the Penn State wrestling and possibly football teams, a Penn State football player said.
Sophomore safety Calvin Lowry said Paterno addressed the issue at a team meeting Thursday, but did not name the individuals involved.
The incident, which took place in the early morning hours of April 13, resulted in two wrestlers receiving treatment for bruises to the head and upper body at Centre Community Hospital, according to the State College Police Department.
Police confirmed they are investigating the assault, which took place at 445 E. Foster Ave.
The statement also said that the incident was "alcohol related" and that any involvement by members of the football team is still not yet known.
The police report said the assailants are unknown.
There have been no new breaks in the investigation, Lt. Diane Conrad said yesterday.
Penn State Director of Sports Information Jeff Nelson said Paterno was unavailable for comment.
Penn State wrestling coach Troy Sunderland acknowledged he had a meeting with the members of his team.
He said he discussed the incident so the wrestlers had some information.
"We wanted to make sure we didn't have any further incidents," Sunderland said.
Sunderland said the wrestlers who received treatment at the hospital are fine.
According to Monday's police statement, the students said they were leaving the residence when a brief argument broke out.
The police also reported that several men then assaulted the students.
It is unclear whether the university or its athletic department are investigating the altercation.
