NEWS

The protocol for a controversial proposal to place surveillance cameras in Beaver Canyon could be approved or rejected by State College Borough Council tonight.

A Canyon Pizza employee suffered minor injuries after he was assaulted early Saturday morning, the State College Police Department said.

About 220 Penn State students were caught last week illegally sharing files online and will have their cases decided before Judicial Affairs, university officials said.

An altercation allegedly involving Penn State football players and wrestlers is being investigated by the university.

Fliers, e-mails and petitions will be circulating campus today, as student body leaders attempt to raise awareness about tonight's State College Borough Council preliminary vote on placing surveillance cameras downtown.

While the debate over surveillance cameras is relatively new, State College is no stranger to the battle between public safety and civil rights. Six years ago, a similar dispute occurred when the State College Borough Council passed a loitering ordinance, despite student protest.

SPORTS

A three-game sweep lasting a little more than an hour. A physically overmatched opponent. A workman-like performance from the team's veterans.

As Lent came to a close yesterday, so too did the scoring drought.

The Penn State women's rugby team is officially California Dreamin'.

The saying seems old, almost cliché by now, but with Bryant Johnson, you get the sense that he means it.

The Penn State men's outdoor track and field team competed in the Nittany Lion Relays at home over the weekend and showed that it is as prepared as it can be for the upcoming Penn Relays.

It was a busy weekend for the Penn State women's outdoor track team, which competed in three different meets 3,000 miles apart.

After a month-long layoff from competition, the Penn State men's golf team participated in the FirstEnergy Collegiate tournament Friday and Saturday, finishing fourth out of 15 teams.

Two weeks ago, the Penn State women's club Frisbee team, Isis, dominated its competition en route to the championship at Penn State's Spring Phling tournament.

Emotions run high in sports.

Notching a fifth consecutive win and upsetting a top 10 team -- not bad for a weekend's work.

Some days teams just have it working, and on others nothing seems to go the right way.

On the road to success, there are often many obstacles that one must first overcome.

The Penn State women's tennis team (7-13, 4-6 Big Ten) dropped two dramatic matches in the Midwest this weekend. The Nittany Lions came up short in a heartbreaking loss to Big Ten rival Iowa (6-12, 4-5), 4-3, on Saturday.
