Senior guard Chambliss transfers to Wisconsin

Sharif Chambliss, the Penn State men's basketball team's senior-to-be guard has received a release from his basketball scholarship and will transfer to Wisconsin. The announcement came in a press release sent out by the Penn State Sports Information Department at 10:09 p.m. last night.

"I would first like to thank everyone at Penn State who supported me," Chambliss said in the release. "I want to thank Mr. Curley and the rest of the support staff as well as the entire basketball family. I very much appreciate the support of the fans and I wish coach [Ed]DeChellis and the team the best of luck next season."

Chambliss had said earlier he would transfer if former Penn State basketball coach Jerry Dunn would still be coaching this season. After DeChellis was hired from East Tennessee State, he said he would still "weigh his options."

Chambliss, was a two-year starter for Penn State and averaged 14.7 points per game this past season, which led the team. He also led the team in scoring in 2001-2002 with 14.6 points per game. He led the Big Ten in free throw shooting this season with a .901 percentage.
