Abortion ruling made to give families a choice

Re: "Ignoring conservatives weakens our liberal views," April 9 column. I consider myself a "nonpracticing" conservative. I have a lot of conservative views, I support most Republicans over most Democrats, but I don't rally or hand out flyers or crosses. I am not religious. I am very agnostic. I am pro-choice, although I would not personally want a woman I impregnated to have an abortion; however, I feel every family should be allowed a choice.

I strongly disagree with your statement: "The only thing that disagrees is Roe v. Wade, which we are keeping to ease the consciousness of women who have had abortions." Are you serious? This is simply not true. The Supreme Court justices voted for this time and again because they simply believe every family has the right to choose, not the government. They did not uphold this view to protect anyone's feelings or consciousness.

I also disagree with "... however, science proves that life starts at conception." Whoever taught you this has given you an opinion, certainly not scientific fact. This is still a widely controversial topic, and science has not yet determined a start or stop point for life.

I feel the writer is young and at a stage in her life where she is easily influenced, but that's alright; this is college. Use this time to observe and form your own opinions. Don't just immediately jump onto the next idea you hear just because the guy was nice to you.

I cannot believe how someone could be raised with that much prejudice to think that one set of political views means someone is "selfish." Please start thinking for yourself before you write another column.
