Greek appeals board undermined presidents

Re: "IFC readmits fraternity with stipulations," April 8 article.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon's re-admittance undermines the president's vote taken place during the IFC meeting in February.

Although I am not the president of my fraternity, I was in attendance of that meeting and voted in accordance with my president's wishes.

The fact that the Student Appeals Board overturned this vote is amazing to me; this is a fraternity that has multiple violations involving illegal narcotics and the misallocation of funds from the Interfraternity/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.

As a member of the greek community, I am ashamed that the Student Appeals Board would want any student group to have these members as part of the Penn State community.

I do realize that the people involved have been removed from Sigma Alpha Epsilon, but I do not believe that everyone in this organization had no prior knowledge of what was happening. The idea that other members knew about the drug use and the misuse of funds would make these members just as guilty as the others because they didn't stop it.

This pains me deeply, for we are handcuffed into re-admitting that which we do not want. The proof is the fact that they lost a two-thirds vote at the President's Council Meeting.

The presidents have spoken: They do not want Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. I believe this is a black-eye in the face that is a beautiful Penn State greek community.
