NEWS

Penn State Athletic Director Tim Curley said the Athletic Department will wait for the conclusion of Anwar Phillips' legal trial before determining his status on the football team.

A decision on a plan to install surveillance cameras on Beaver Avenue could come as early as the State College Borough Council's May 5 meeting -- the week of Penn State's final examination period.

State College has been rocked by three riots since 1998.

Warren Harding was sullied by the Teapot Dome Scandal, Richard Nixon was tarnished by the Watergate break-in and Bill Clinton was tainted due to his infidelity.

For international students with relatives in the Middle East, the war in Iraq has been especially worrying.

Students and civilians eager to send supportive messages to troops overseas now have new venues for correspondence.

Penn State students were disappointed when changes were made to the Semester at Sea voyage due to a mysterious flu-like illness in Asian countries.

Musical instruments will not be necessary when members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) perform at a step show at 6 p.m. Saturday in Eisenhower Auditorium.

SPORTS

The No. 9 Penn State men's volleyball team took its first step towards a national championship this past weekend by securing its 15th EIVA regular-season title.

For the first three games of the series the Penn State baseball team's best offense was the Ohio State defense. But then that all changed.

It was barely mid-afternoon, but Sean Stidfole wore a five-o'clock shadow.

It's like a whole different team out there.

Two straight upsets in a week seemed like a strong possibility throughout the game, but Penn State just did not have enough to overcome the deficit at the end.

Penn State men's track and field coach Harry Groves returned to a familiar place this weekend. Not only did his team travel to the college where he previously coached track and field for 13 years, it competed in the meet that he founded 39 years ago.

For the Penn State women's outdoor track and field team, there seemed to be a trend while it competed at the Penn Invitational. It was the second meet for the outdoor team and the number of first- and second-place sweeps were in abundance.

It is known that defense wins championships, but in this case, it was pure hustle.

Shutouts were everywhere this weekend for the Penn State softball team. Unfortunately, twice the Nittany Lions were the ones not scoring.

The weather finally cooperated for the Penn State women's rugby team. Unfortunately for the Lady Ruggers, Navy did not.

The Penn State men's tennis team came off a hard road loss to No. 23 Indiana (11-4, 3-1 Big Ten), which snapped its eight-match win streak with the hopes of capturing a victory this weekend.

The Penn State women's tennis (7-9, 2-4) team dropped two Big Ten matches to the University of Illinois (11-5, 4-1) and Purdue (8-9, 3-3) this weekend.

OPINIONS

Sound of silence: Penn State officials should talk about Phillips case

My Opinion: Soldiers in Iraq would fight and die for you; keep them in your mind

Letters to the editor
ARTS

As the war with Iraq continues to spark controversy, some students have turned to local bands and musicians as an outlet for their opinions.
