Column unfairly blames Catholic church, priests
Daniel Moore's swipe at the Catholic priesthood is offensive ("Pride Week should work toward making homosexuality a non-issue," April 2 column). He blames the recent sex abuse scandal on Catholic teaching regarding homosexuality, calling abusive priests men "consumed with Catholic guilt." Apparently, they weren't consumed enough. If they were actually faithful to Catholic teaching, the scandal would never have occurred. Arguing that the abuse is a natural consequence of attempting to live a celibate life is an insult not only to the majority of priests, but also to the homosexuals who Moore implies cannot control themselves.
