Column assumes athlete has been found guilty
To the author of "PSU athletes getting away penalty-free" (March 27 sports column): Knowing that you are well conversed in the legal system, you are of course aware that a person is deemed innocent until proven guilty. Therefore, what actions are you suggesting that Judicial Affairs place on Anwar Phillips or anyone else for that matter until the courts make a decision on the case? Their involvement usually entails charges, which can result in prison time and fines, but I'm sure you know this too. Accusations of such crimes should be investigated fully, before false opinions are made towards the accused. As for your "If you're an athlete, you can get away with anything" comment, I have yet to see your basis for this claim. Are you involved in each individual case to adequately provide a ruling on each matter? The next time you are editing articles for wrestling and add in un-sustained facts please ask for help. I would be more than glad to provide you with factual information, for which you seem to have a difficult time finding. Wrestling at Penn State is one of a few sports that do create revenue, contrary to your statement that it is a sport that doesn't make any money. Factual evidence from someone that is involved with the subject that you are writing on is perhaps better than speculation alone, but since you are a journalist, you can write anything! In the future, please engage the brain before operating the mouth, you may save yourself from sounding foolish. Mark Bost
