U.S. has always entered war for its own benefit

This newspaper has seen a protracted debate on the America-Iraq war in the past few days. Some people support the war as a fight of good against evil and some oppose it in favor of peace. However, there are very few people who have realized that war has never been about right and wrong for America; it has always been about self-interest and personal motives.

In World War II, America chose to oppose Hitler and support Churchill. Many people today believe that this was because of Hitler's oppression of the Jews. However, this is not true. What Hitler was doing to the Jews, Churchill's government was doing to the Indians -- perhaps even worse. America's decision to support England (after Pearl Harbor) was not due to any altruistic reasons but simply because of self-interest and politics.

This is evident even when we see the wars World War II to Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq. Look beyond the rhetoric of right and wrong, good and evil and you will see the true side of American policies: deception, self-interest, international arm-twisting, etc.

Thus, those who support the war should not fool themselves or the others; instead they should look everybody in the face and declare that they support the war because of self-interest and personal gains. At least then they would be speaking the truth.
