Clermont/Shahrir

USG presidential candidate Chris Clermont (junior-psychology) and vice presidential candidate Shahida Shahrir (junior-biology) have never served on USG, but these friends since freshman year look forward to bringing a new voice to the campus's ruling body, Clermont said.

"You have to look at what you're defining as diversity," Clermont said. "Look at all aspects. We want to unify a diverse campus."

Clermont and Shahrir's platforms include reevaluating academic adviser training, launching online SRTEs, creating a one-day service event and establishing a governing body of representatives from student organizations and clubs.

Developing an off-campus, alcohol-free nightlife alternative, and creating a USG position to survey students on Penn State issues also rank high on the candidates' objectives, Clermont said.

Clermont -- a Lion Ambassador, resident assistant, teaching assistant and University Health Services employee -- said while the Penn State campus undergoes many physical renovations, he and Shahrir want to renovate other aspects of the school they love.

"What we're gong to bring to USG is a different viewpoint from what's been recycled in past years," said Shahrir, a State College local, teaching assistant and member of African dance group NOMMO who aspires to a medical career.
