The only thing stopping the Lady Ruggers this weekend was Mother Nature.
The Penn State women's rugby team lost a chance at a third straight shutout to open the season against Navy yesterday due to inclement weather.
The Lady Ruggers were coming off a 33-0 thrashing of rival Virginia in the semi-finals of the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union tournament on Saturday. Playing in a steady drizzle and heavy mud, the Ruggers wore down Virginia, scoring three late tries to pull away. Katie Gloyer led the team with two tries, while Kim Magrini, Rosie Daley and Heather Kantorek notched single tries each. Amy Manidis led the Ruggers in conversions, knocking four out of five through the uprights.
The Ruggers will make up the championship match against Navy next weekend, and its scheduled match against Virginia has been cancelled. The team will then head to the West Chester tournament on the weekend of April 12-13.
