Samuel E. Hayes, a former Pennsylvania representative, was appointed to the Penn State Board of Trustees.
Hayes replaces Dennis Wolff, who was named Secretary of Agriculture for Pennsylvania.
While in the House of Representatives, Hayes served as the majority leader and whip.
He was also Pennsylvania's Secretary of Agriculture, serving for state governors Tom Ridge and Mark Schweiker.
Hayes served five years on active duty for the U.S. Army and received the Bronze Star for his service in the Vietnam War.
He received his bachelor's degree in agriculture education in 1964 and his master's of education in 1965, both from Penn State.
In 2000, he received an Outstanding Alumnus Award from Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences.
