The State College Police Department is investigating an early Saturday morning incident in which an officer was struck in the head with a beer bottle.

The officer was injured while assisting with a disorderly crowd on the 200 block of Beaver Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, when the officer was hit by the bottle, police said.

The officer suffered a laceration requiring medical treatment, police said.

The police officer was taken to Centre Community Hospital, police added.
